Ka’Mauri’s Story

Ka'Mauri had never known a stable home. He was four years old, and his mom had been bouncing between friends' couches for months, desperately trying to keep him safe.

Where His Story Begins

When she finally ran out of places to turn, there was one thing she was certain of.

Quote: I do not want my son sleeping on the street. - Ka'Mauri's Mom

Because of friends like you, there was a bed waiting for him at Hope.

But Ka'Mauri needed more than a safe place to sleep. Still in diapers at four, with a limited vocabulary and real developmental delays, he leaned on everyone around him just to get through the day. DJ, a Hope staff member, remembers those early days clearly.

"He often approached situations with the mindset of 'but I'm a baby,' relying heavily on others for help."

Ka'Mauri, less than a year into his journey at Hope

He's Becoming Who God Made Him To Be

Less than a year later, he's a different child. His speech has improved dramatically. He's fully potty trained. DJ has watched that shift happen day by day.

"He now shows a 'big boy' mentality and takes pride in doing things for himself."

He's talkative, imaginative, and full of energy.

"Ka'Mauri is talkative and always full of conversation. He loves singing and often uses his imagination in creative and playful ways, bringing a lot of energy and personality into every situation," DJ says.

Scripture says, "I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living" (Psalm 27:13). Every child who comes to Hope has reason to stop believing, in themselves, in others, in a future worth hoping for. But when they find people who already believe in them, something begins to change.

Because Of You

You Believed in Ka'Mauri Before He Could Believe in Himself

That transformation didn't happen on its own. It happened because you believed in Ka'Mauri before he could believe in himself. Your prayers and your giving gave him a home where he could catch up and start to thrive.

Here's what makes Ka'Mauri's story so exciting: everything you just read is only the beginning. His journey at Hope is just getting started, and the progress he's made in less than a year says a lot about what still lies ahead for him.

Because you believed in Ka'Mauri, he's learning to believe in himself, in his future, and in the unending love of his Heavenly Father.

Another child is waiting for that same chance.

Right now, another child is waiting for the same thing Ka'Mauri found at Hope: a safe home, a family who won't give up on him, and someone who believes in who God made him to be. A gift today helps make sure that child has a bed waiting for them too.
