Johanna’s Journey

From heartache to healing, Johanna’s journey is a powerful story of resilience, hope, and the life-changing impact of your support.

Johanna first came to Hope Children’s Home in Clovis at age 14. Her parents were facing serious health challenges and could no longer care for her.

It was a difficult and uncertain time, but at Hope, Johanna found a safe place to land—and the support she needed to keep moving forward.

Over time, her family situation improved, and Johanna was able to reunite with her parents. But that wasn’t the end of her journey with Hope.

Cottage Assistant Christiana shares what happened next:

“Throughout the next year at home, Johanna worked hard and graduated high school a year early.

“Uncertain of what the future held, Johanna spent many weeks praying about where God would lead her next. We’re happy to say He led her back to Hope and, as a result, she has been able to accomplish many things.

“She’s gotten her license and has been working incredibly hard at two jobs to save for her studies and for a car. And now she’s decided to head to college in the fall. We are so excited for her next chapter!”

Everything seemed to be falling into place. Johanna had recently bought her first car—something she’d worked so hard and saved diligently for.

But then, in a split second, everything changed.

Johanna’s car after accident

Johanna was in a serious car accident. While driving one evening, her car was hit by a semi-truck traveling around 40 MPH.

She was rushed to a hospital two hours away in Lubbock, TX, where doctors discovered two fractures in her neck.

Though shaken and in pain, Johanna’s spirit remained strong.

She didn’t need surgery, but doctors confirmed she had suffered a concussion and would need to wear a neck brace for 6–8 weeks.

She had also been dealing with light sensitivity and ongoing pain in her head, neck, and eyes.

Yet even through this detour, she remains hopeful and determined.

Thanks to the prayers and support of so many, Johanna has continued to heal—and now, she’s celebrating a major milestone: she just had her neck brace removed and is beginning to return to work!

Your support gave Johanna a safe place to land when she needed it most. It gave her the tools to dream, the space to grow, and now—comfort and care as she heals.

Thank you for believing in her.
