Elyjah, Damian, & Desi

The COVID pandemic brought challenges to every family. But for Elyjah, Damian, and Desi, it turned their world upside down.

Their mother lost her job, their home, and the ability to care for them, leading her to place them in Hope’s care in December 2021.

At first, the siblings were overwhelmed with fear. Elyjah, just six years old, struggled with anxiety, refusing to eat or even take showers.

The smallest tasks would leave him in tears, saying, “I can’t do it.” Damian (3) and Desi (2) were painfully shy, barely speaking and hesitant to engage with others.

The day Desi, Elyjah, and Damian came to Hope

“Damian almost always carries a smile on his face. He loves playing outside and making people laugh.”
— Aunt Haley, House Mom

“Desi is a very smart girl! She’s only five but acts like a little teenager. She loves to play with her brothers at recess, and her favorite thing is learning how to read.”
