Amanda’s Story – Back to School
At just 15 years old, Amanda has already endured more loss and instability than most face in a lifetime.
After her mother passed away from cancer, Amanda was separated from her half-siblings and sent from Alaska to Florida to live with her father—who struggled with alcoholism and couldn’t provide a stable home.
She eventually moved in with her aunt and uncle, who deeply love her but were overwhelmed with the challenges Amanda faced, both at school and at home.
When Amanda arrived at Hope Children’s Home in early 2023, she was emotionally wounded and academically far behind.
Her confidence was low. According to her teacher Isaac, “It felt like she had already decided she couldn’t learn, so she didn’t really try.”
But everything began to change when Amanda stepped into our school—where every subject is taught through a Bible-based, non-Common Core curriculum, in a safe and loving environment.
She received individualized educational therapy and, over time, something powerful happened: Amanda started to believe in herself again.
She’s discovered a talent for music—learning guitar and keyboard—and is now one of the hardest-working students in her class.
Her teacher proudly says, “Out of everyone, I’ve seen the most growth in her, hands down.”
